Håkan Hyden is Professor of Sociology of Law at Lund University since 1988. He is dual qualified as a lawyer and social scientist. He began his career as a lawyer by working as a clerk at the Gothenburg District Court for 2 1/2 years in the early 1970s. He read a bachelor in Social sciences and became PhD in Sociology of Law in 1978 at Lund University. In the meantime, he taught law at the Department of Business Law. On the merits he eventually became docent in civil law in 1985 at the Law School, University of Lund, before he became a professor of sociology of law at the faculty of social sciences. In the 1990s he worked with human rights in the third world and was for a period member of Sida’s (the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency) board. In the 2000s, it has become more and more of a focus on future issues.
In order to understand the development of society Hyden has developed a Norm Science research approach. He has written numerous books and articles over the years been supervisor for more than 30 PhDs. He is a popular speaker even outside the universities. Hyden has initiated the Association “Researchers meet Filmmakers” which nowadays is a unit under Lund University. He is vice-president of the Research Committee for Sociology of Law, a branch of ISA (International Sociological Association) and a Fellow of the World Academy of Arts and Sciences.
